Hey, I'm Jamie Bohannon!
I'm a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and the Lead Injector & Founder of Skin Salvation. I've been in the medical field for 15 years, 8 of which have been in medical aesthetics.

In December 2022, I decided to take Semaglutide (the medicine that's branded as "Ozempic") which was recently approved by the FDA for weight loss.
It was definitely not a snap decision. I spoke to my doctor, consulted with my husband, and talked to my long-time friend and founder of Skin Salvation, Jamie.

After having my first child I hired a personal trainer to get ready for my wedding, but the scale was not moving as much as I wanted it to. I then got pregnant with my second child, and faced some health complications after giving birth.
I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes, and some tests indicated my cardiac health was at risk. This really worried me because I have a family history of heart problems.
I tried Keto for a while and lost some weight, but it was not sustainable for me. I was eventually prescribed metformin and a cholesterol pill, which made it even harder to lose weight.

How much weight can I lose?
It is different for each patient and depends on your starting weight, any lifestyle changes you make, the dosage, timeline, and your body’s reaction to the medication. Weight loss ranges from 10 lbs to 50 lbs, with some studies reporting weight loss of up to 18% of total body weight.

What I (Val) have found, is that I lost the most weight in the first few months and have reached a bit of a plateau (losing about 1 lb per week instead of 3 lbs a week when I started). However, this is very normal and doctors indicate that the plateau will break through in time.
What’s the difference between Ozempic, Wegovy, and Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a peptide injection used to treat type 2 diabetes, and is used for long-term weight management. It’s the actual product name that is branded under Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus.
How can I manage the side effects?
What I’ve noticed is that I (Val) experience side effects between 24-48hrs after the injection. Because I know this will happen, I try to make sure the day or two following an injection is not jam-packed with stuff to do. When I first started the medication my symptoms were mostly nausea and vomiting, which I expected. After titrating up to my maintenance dose, I don’t feel awesome after an injection, but the side effects are not as bad.
Do I have to be on it forever?
No. Once you’ve achieved your goal weight, you can decide to continue on your maintenance dose or titrate (lower) the dosage and eventually come off completely.
How does the medication work?
Semaglutide injections work by mimicking the effects of the hormone GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite and glucose metabolism.
